The new arrival
Welcome to the
International Centre for Birds of Prey
Well regardless of anything that you hear on the weather forecasts, we have had the most glorious summer so far, great weather, gorgeous early mornings and good flying from the birds. The new birds have joined the flying team, or are in training for it. Some of the last years crop have been grounded for moulting. The Bald Eagle was on demonstration, but is going through the teanage stage and is having some retraining right now! Sadly the Golden Eagles had to go back to their owner as they did not settle here.
Rush was very ill a couple of weeks ago but is now fully recovered and being a pain as Acer is in season, don’t let anyone tell you that neutering a dog will stop the drive!!
The new weighing room is just wonderful, finished all bar the hot water, up and running and making a huge difference to us in giving us a much larger, cleaner and nicer work space – we can even make tea!!
The Very Golden Eagle (VGE) is now moved and on a brick plinth and looking very much smarter, although I would still like to remove the gold as I think he would look stunning in plain metal.
Iloana, Joan’s mother, has done sterling work in the gardens and has removed much of the ground elder, she is a hero, and many of the work experience people and volunteers have been helping her. The stables are re roofed and painted and we are getting them ready to move some of the tools down there and the drainage seems to be working although quite frankly it is difficult to tell because we have had so little rain.
Autumn is round the corner and owl evenings follow on, time just flies by here, but it’s a great place to be, to work and to visit.
