The birds left here now that we are closed
Here are a few of the birds that we have remaining with us.
Hen Harriers
We have several pairs of Hen Harriers from Europe for the Southern Release programme with Natural England. These we hope will start to breed soon and then any resulting young will go to the release site in Wiltshire for release to the wild.
It is an exciting programme; Hen Harriers have not been bred in captivity before so we hope we can succeed. We are confident on the releases from the work we have done on Brood Management of Hen Harriers in Northern England where the released young have done very well in terms of their ability to survive.
Hemp - Eurasian eagle owl
The last of my own birds, still with us at over 20 years old and still laying eggs every year which she is always very proud of, is Hemp, a Eurasian Eagle Owl. Luckily, I am still her favourite person so we are a happy pair together.
She continues to rear young ‘orphan’ tawny owls if they get brought in and now because we are no longer open to the public, we have made a hole in the mesh on the aviary at the top, which she can’t get out of but the tawny owls can fledge from! Seems to work a treat and makes the release easier for all concerned.
By the time they are ready to go she is more than pleased to see them leave.
YOU CAN HELP
None of the above would be possible without the help and support of others. You can make a difference and help us to help them. Whatever you can afford is much appreciated.
We are eternally grateful for those who leave a legacy to the ICBP, as they make a huge difference to our conservation work. For further information please contact us
